Nearly 17 years ago, I bought a copy of Budget Travel Magazine. In it, I found an article about the agriturismo concept. This is when a working farm also functions as an inn for travelers. The magazine showcased several and I was instantly in love. My husband and I were already planning our first international trip together. We booked a room at one of those farms and the rest is history. In a way, Budget Travel Magazine changed my life.
Today, they published one of my articles in the web version of their magazine. To say, “Thank you” just doesn’t cut it somehow. Please enjoy the article:

Thanks. Writing can be a solitary experience and sometimes it is hard to do it if you think that no one is reading. Thanks for being so supportive. All I can do is hope that people find the information useful for weekend trips, road trips, vacations and more. Thank you for your loyalty. 🙂

I love that you included that plantation in Charleston! When I started reading the article I thought that would be a wonderful location to include, and of course, you were ahead of me! I was involved in a discussion or training about equity in parks through the NRPA this fall and the Charleston County parks director was talking about all the work his department had done to make this an improved, more equitable plantation tour experience. They were very intentional in their choices and it sounds like it paid off. Can’t wait to visit sometime myself! Thanks for the preview and congratulations on your publication!

I am glad that the National Recreation and Parks Association is thinking about equity. Often, people think “park” and they think of trees. They forget that some of America’s best historic sites are parks and all aspects of equity need to factor into how they are presented. Charleston County has done a phenomenal job! In case you missed the full-length article about MacLeod Plantation that I had published worldwide last year, here’s the link: https://www.worldfootprints.com/a-south-carolina-plantation-shows-us-the-way-forward/ Thank you SO MUCH for reading this blog!

I also don’t comment often, but I am so proud of you! Your articles make me want to travel (which you know is a huge compliment coming from me). You are an amazing writer, and I love watching your career flourish.

Wow! Thank you! That IS a huge compliment! The general idea behind the blog is to make people feel like travel is possible and accessible (and desirable). If that’s how you and my other subscribers are feeling then YAY! Thank you for taking the time to write. That’s huge for solitary people like writers. 🙂
