I have been to Charleston before but the last time I was here was at least 15 years ago.

We are currently staying at a hotel with a beautiful pool area overlooking a marina.  I would love to tell you which hotel, but since they are not paying me, forget it.  However, if a certain CEO of a certain hotel chain recognizes his property and wants to sponsor this blog, call me! This hotel has a shuttle into the old section of Charleston.  Normally, it costs $6 per person but, the hotel is feeling generous right now and is running the shuttle for free.  I took it down to Waterfront Park.  The weather was glorious!  It was sunny with a high temp of 77.  I strolled, took photos (see below) and sat on a park bench and listened to an audiobook.  In short, I had nowhere I had to be and nothing that had to get done.  Aaaahhhh. . . .

I know that the current trend in everything (houses, offices, hotels especially, restaurants) is for everything to be modern.  Every interior is sleek with glass and chrome and all right angles with no softness.  I don’t like it.  At all.  I have always preferred old world style.  Classic.  Design with richness and warmth.  As I walked around the old section yesterday looking at the architecture from the 1700’s I found I had a little lump in my throat.  It is so beautiful. . . and rich with history and stories to be told, and some still waiting to be written.  Give me that over a black granite countertop and chrome drawer pulls any day.

I know this is going to sound schizophrenic, but I am a Gemini so get over it.  I love our current hotel room at the Courtyard Charleston Waterfront.  It has tons of space and I could be comfortable here for a long time (despite the modern aesthetic).
